The two oldest sons served in the Civil War and that service
perhaps was responsible for Erasmus’ first marriage in Kentucky.
George had lived to be 73 and Cynthia 83. Of their 7
children who lived to adulthood, their average lifespan was 72.5 years with
Erasmus only 47 and Nellie 94. Only 2 of 7 remained in NY State, the others
disbursed to Chicago, St Louis, Colorado. Nineteen grandchildren lived beyond
their first year.
