My 5th great grandfather Wheeler Watson 1772-1846 was the first person in the family with that name -- Wheeler having been his mother's maiden name. I have found quite a few of his descendants and nephews who carry the name as well.
It was only last weekend that I stumbled upon a previously unknown grandson named Wheeler Watson who lived briefly from 1836 to 1839. The only son of John 1808-1891 and his wife Marcy, the boy's name was engraved on his parents' burial monument at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. The cemetery opened in 1863 and the office records indicated that this was a cenotaph, the boy's remains had not been transferred to Woodlawn. Looking further I did find a record of his burial in Prattsville, Greene County, where his father and uncle Zadock Pratt operated a large and successful leather tannery.
Others were:
Wheeler Watson Dwight 1845-1846 grandson
born to daughter Rebecca and her husband Lyman
Wheeler Watson 1834-1907 grandnephew
born to Samuel & Sarah, nephew via his brother Thomas
Several nephews descended from his brother John 1768-1829:
Wheeler Clay Watson 1913-1998
son of Thomas and wife Nina
he and wife
Wheeler Rufus Watson 1847-1911
son of Asa and wife Tenie
he and wife Alice had a son Wheeler 1887-1916
Wheeler Watson Pulliam 1900 - 1982
son of Caledonia Watson & James Pulliam
Next perhaps I'll trace the numerous Rufus Watsons in this family line.
